Ideas in Transit

Fancy taking part in an 'innovative' research study?

Are technologies important to how you organise your life? Is your mobile phone essential for last minute changes to your schedule? Do you make social or business arrangements through email or the internet? Do electronic maps and GPS help you find your way?

'Ideas in Transit' is researching the ways people use technologies to creatively manage their everyday lives, especially their transport needs. We are looking for people who use technologies a lot to help us with our research. We want to know how you use different technologies (like your mobile phone, BlackBerry, or the internet) to organise your travel, to co-ordinate your schedules, or as part of your journey experience, and for making contact with people like your family, friends, work or business associates.

Ideas in Transit is a collaborative research study between the University of the West of England, Bristol, Loughborough University, the Ordnance Survey, and Ito World Ltd.

Who can help us?

We are currently seeking university students (aged 18-26 years). You must be over 18 years to take part.

We are no longer recruiting mums or professionals for this part of the research. You can still submit your details, and we will contact you should there be an opportunity to participate in the research project in the future.

What do you have to do?

We want you to tell us about one day of your life in a diary. The diary is a fold-out booklet and you can use the space how you want. Click here for an example of how you might tell us about your day. You can use words, photos, video clips or audio files, whatever suits you really, and any electronic information can be saved onto a CD provided in your diary pack. We will also give you a disposable camera and colour pens. Making the diary is meant to be fun, as well as informative, and shouldn’t take too much of your time.

After you have given back your diary, we will come and talk to you about your day, your journeys and use of technologies.

As this research activity will take up some of your time, we are offering participants gift vouchers of your choice as a thank you.

What do you do now?

If you think you would like to take part in our research, we would like you to read the information for participants which tells you more about participating in 'Ideas in Transit', who we are, and how the research information is managed.

We need to have a few details from you so that we know how to get in touch with you again, and to help us to identify our target research groups.
